Atlas Manual Pasta Extruder Regina - Made in Italy Review

I have bought and tried just about all the Chinese Pasta Mixer-Extruders that are being sold today, including the Ronco disaster and the Pasta imPerfect (and its' 3 or 4 clones that have interchangable parts with the Pasta Perfect.) and have decided that you need to invest at least $200 to get a combination unit that has a ghost of a chance of performing decently.

I have had good luck with two different units: The somewhat pricey Kitchen-Aid pasta extruder attachment (which requires the ownership of a Kitchen-Aid mixer, and this cheap little Atlas manual pasta extruder. Both units require you make up the dough in advance. With the Kitchen-Aid you have the dough hook and all the other great equipment. With the Atlas, you can use a fork, flour, eggs, your hands and whatever else, to create your dough.

With the dies included, you can make spaghetti, macaroni, noodles, lasanga and cookies. Who cares about the 8 other dies that don't work very well in the other machines anyhow? It is a manual machine. Nothing to jam or burn out. Easy to clean. And it does its' thing quite well! This is the unit to get if you want do what pasta extruders do best. Roller type pasta makers also have their place, but you can easily afford this little angel and a roller machine as well! Obviously I love it!

Just a month ago the price for this product, the Easiyo jar and two lunch takers, was approximately $9.Two weeks later, the price was around $14.Now it has increased yet again to $19.30 in that short period of time!!!Can someone please explain what is going on at Amazon?Can we expect further price increases with this product?

BonJour 8 Cup Maximus Insulated French Press, Brushed Stainless Steel Review

I researched many different brands of French press coffee makers & decided on this one for two reasons: 1) the double glass insulation & 2) the flavor lock system. The double glass insulation keeps coffee warmer longer than a single glass maker. Also, the steel frame helps prevent glass breakage. Although most French press makers are made of break resistant glass, several reviews I read on many different sites indicated glass breakage was a common issue. The flavor lock system appears to be available only with the BonJour brand. When you're done making the coffee you simply twist the knob on the top, which stops the brewing process. This means the last cup tastes as good as the first cup. Coffee from a French press is much better than from a drip coffee maker. French press coffee is smooth & not bitter. Although this French press is marketed as an "8 cup" maker, that is based on a European measurement using 4 ounce cups. This press is 32 ounces. We have been using this French press everyday for the last month, sometimes twice a day, & we are very pleased with it.

Toastmaster Dual Thermal Coffeemaker Review

This is the only coffee maker that I could find that I can use my larger cups with, that I thought was reasonably priced.I love that I can make one cup of coffee at a time and I do not have a pot to wash.The coffee drips right into my cup and when I'm done the cup goes into the dishwasher.I also like the automatic shut off.Very nice that it comes with 2 travel mugs.

Zojirushi NHS-18 10-Cup Rice Cooker/Steamer & Warmer Review

I love my rice cooker and use it several times a week!But you need to wash your rice thoroughly before cooking.This will help with the "spitting water" problem the cooker has.
I enjoy using the steamer for kale, broccoli, cauliflower, or carrots.The only trick is learning when to put the veggies in while the rice is cooking so that the veggies don't overcook.
My brown rice tends to clump and stick on the bottom, even when the rice is washed.That's one problem that keeps me from rating this as a 5 star machine.The other problem is that the instruction booklet is poorly done.Brown rice needs to soak for 30 minutes before starting to cook.

Capresso 260.03 PerfectTea Cordless 48-Ounce Electric Glass Kettle Review

I really really wanted a glass kettle, with no plastic, and to be able to see the water level. Having the temperature selection to boot made this kettle an almost sure winner - on "paper"...

I was hoping they fixed the "smell/taste" issue from the old model. They didn't. Around the heating element, there is a silicon/rubber seal. I think it's the fault of the seal - there is a smell AND taste in the water.

What I did (after washing and boiling with vinegar as instructed) was boil some water in it, let it sit there to cool, and then taste it. YUCK!!

NOW - two important things to mention.
First - my spouse is just barely able to detect it, and it doesn't bother him as all. He describes it as a "faint mineral aftertaste". To me it is SO strong, I can't see how anyone would call it faint..
Second - I *cannot* taste the difference if the water is NOT pure, i.e. in tea, oatmeal, or something else. This almost makes me want to keep the kettle, because otherwise it's so beautiful and practical. But I can't help thinking that I don't know what it is that I am tasting... Probably not BPA, and it might be completely harmless, but how can I know for sure??

I might keep the kettle till the last minute before I can return it, to see if the smell/taste goes away, but I am not hopeful...

Lastly, a practical point that might matter for some - it does NOT swivel all around on the base. Rather it can only go on the base in 4 discrete places, 90 degrees apart.
